Agrotourism Crete: Discover the Olive Oil Journey through a Guided Olive Mill Tour
Agrotourism Crete is all about connecting with the people, the land, and its authentic treasures. We are Panagiotis and Antonis Marinakis, owners of a traditional olive mill in Kontopoula, Chania, and we invite you to join us on a unique experience that unveils the secrets of producing Cretan olive oil—one of the most iconic and cherished traditional products of Greece.
By taking part in this activity, you’ll become part of the heart of agrotourism in Crete, learning the story of olive oil in a hands-on, immersive way that celebrates the spirit and flavor of the island.
During your visit to our traditional olive mill in Chania, as part of your Agrotourism Crete experience, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the facilities and machinery, learning about each stage of the process through detailed explanations. Although the olive mill might not be operating during your visit due to the season (olive harvest takes place mainly from October to January), a comprehensive video presentation will walk you through the full process — from the harvest of the olives to the moment Cretan olive oil reaches your plate.
At the end of the tour, guests can enjoy a tasting session with different types and qualities of Cretan olive oil, accompanied by a small treat based on local flavors, offering a rich and authentic Cretan food tour experience.
